About

Fèis Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu was established in 2017, with the aim of providing opportunities for Glasgow’s young people to learn about Gàidhlig music, culture and the arts. Fèis Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu provide a program of Gaelic events each year.

The Fèis is run by a committee of volunteers who work in partnership with our umbrella organisation, Fèisean nan Gàidheal.

What is a Fèis?

fèis, -ean, s.f. Feast, gathering, festival.

Fèis (plural Fèisean) is the Gaelic word for a festival or feast. However over the past thirty years the word has become synonomous with the Fèis movement; a group of Gaelic arts tuition festivals, mainly for young people, which now take place throughout Scotland.

A Fèis is an opportunity for individuals to come together to develop skills in the Gaelic arts – song, dance, drama, and traditional music on a wide range of instruments. Tuition is accessible and fun, but professional and effective.

Fèis structure:

Fèis Bheag – Under school age:

Fèis Bheag participants (under school age) will get an opportunity to take part in different workshops alongside their parents/guardians. Similar to Fèis Mheadhan, participants will take part in different activities, including games, drama and singing. These workshops are free but need to be booked in advance.

Fèis Mheadhan - P1-3:
Fèis Mheadhan gives an opportunity for younger pupils in P1-3 to take part in different activities throughout the week including games, drama and singing.

Fèis Mhòr - P4-7
Fèis Mhòr gives older pupils the opportunity to receive tutoring in traditional instruments, language and Gàidhlig culture. As well as classes during the day, we also run a program of events in the evenings of Fèis week.

Fèis Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu is currently open to GME pupils only. No prior knowledge of instrument necessary, open to all levels.
